To promote their new movie Detective Pikachu released on 10 May, Warner Bros created a fun Pikachu lovers pop-up in the middle of Covent Garden with the opportunity to participate in a few of the activities inspired by themes in the movie. Warner Bros announced the pop-up event early, but tickets for the workshop sessions were released nly a few days before the event and tickets were limited.
Activities included mime workshops, yoga sessions, massages and cupcake icing. The timings for some of the events were quite early and unfortunately there was only one cupcake icing session on the Friday, which we couldn’t get to. Such a shame to miss that particular session as the pictures looked great! We managed to book onto the Mr. Mime-inspired miming classes with Electric Cabaret and the WAH Nails manicure.
So on Saturday afternoon, we made our way to Covent Garden, with the venue being a short walk away from the station. It as easy to spot with the impressive Detective Pikachu branding on the window.
The mime class was fun and interactive and there was a mix of kids and adults participating. We primarily focused on the classic trapped in a box / trying to push against a wall.
We had a little bit of time after the mime class started to explore the venue and get some photo ops. There were lots of neon signs and Pokemon themed posters.
In the main space was a wall with the Detective Pikachu skyline as the background with some magnetic props that could be stuck to the wall and posed with.
There was a fluffy soft yellow wall with fun props to use to take some photos, with Pikachu headbands as props to use. Here we took some fun photos or a a moving photo/gif, which were then emailed directly to us.
We then entered the infinity room that was filled with mirrors and hanging lightning bolts. The mirrors on the wall and the ceiling gave the room an infinite effect.
They also had a Detective Pikachu-inspired coffee bar which was serving mango bubble tea, juices, coffees and hot chocolate. If you opted for a hot drink, the baristas used a special machine which printed a Pikachu design on top.
The venue also had a downstairs section which featured some brilliant neon artwork with the main logo and catchphrases. the Jigglypuff inspired karaoke booths and a section to get your nails done by WAH nails.
We had fun time in the karaoke booths singing along to a few options
WAH Nails Pikachu area and designs for the day.
Pikachu themed manicure accent.
It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon, a shame that we couldn’t do more sessions (such as the Psyduck massage and the cupcake icing) due to timings, but we had fun!
