The uniqueness and creativity in which some pop-ups demonstrate is why I enjoy attending them. In September 2018, I was lucky to book two lunch-time tickets (£3 each, proceeds towards a charity) to the Gousto ‘Chef-less Restaurant’ pop-up. In fitting with the theme of Gousto, a recipe box company, this pop-up basically put all the work of cooking on our shoulders.
Located in a warehouse/loft venue we arrived a little bit late to the session, but there was no mad rush as the first thing to do was get ourselves some drinks. We had the fun option to make our own cocktails (simple stuff, no shakers required!), have some wine or soft drinks.
While settling in with the drinks, we were given menu cards to look at so we could decide the dish we’d be preparing. One decided, we were given our box and off we went into the kitchen to start preparing.
Aprons on, we take a look at the recipe cards and the ingredients we’ve been given. The great thing was most ingredients were already prepped and sized, there was a lovely team dedicated to washing-up and some Gousto chefs on hand to help us with cooking tips.
The kitchen was a little bit crowded with the number of pairs and groups cooking but we managed to get our rice dish done with no major mishaps. Before eating, also had the opportunity to ‘style’ our food for the those inevitable sharing pics.
After our hard work in the kitchen, food on the table, we grabbed some more drinks and tucked into delicious meals! With the added bones of not having to wash up after. It was great way to spend an afternoon, cooking and catching up.
