The Copycat @ The COLAB Factory

Perfectly timed for Halloween festivities, the COLAB Factory have produced another immersive and interactive experience that places you in the middle of a serial killer horror mystery with this unique Splutter Theatre production.

Inspired by true crime cases. The Copycat is part murder mystery, part nerve jangling immersive horror show, part escape room. So put on your thinking caps, and your bravest face. Come ready to be fully immersed into a world of horrifying mystery.

We are given a brief general introduction and then told our safeword (why do we need a safeword? already worried!). From that moment we jumped right into the action.

We were a group of 12, brought together by our protagonist Anthony, to find out exactly what was happening with recent spell of killings in London and help him identify the culprit before more bodies turn up. He has a personal interest in seeing the killer brought to justice as he believes it linked to the murder of his sister. The killings are eerily similar to older gone before and there are suspicions that this could be a copycat killer.

Our group was directed to Anthony’s hideout to begin our search. In true ‘armchair detective’ fashion there were notes, files articles of information that we need to read, listen to and decode together to start building a theory of what happened.

We worked together, sharing information amongst ourselves and we start to get a clearer picture of who the suspects may be and gather some further information. The ‘second half’ of the production starts to have a familiar escape room feel to it. This is where the fear, anxiety and tension ramp up even further as we now need to remember everything we have seen and heard while also praying that we were safe from harm.

The actors engaged well with us detectives and the set production really makes you feel as if you are in the middle of a horror movie, never knowing what was waiting around the corner.

As we moved through, we all huddled closely together, no-one wanting to be on the edge of the group, first in or last left last in a room for fear of the unknown. With 12 people it does take a moment to feel involved in all parts, but everyone is encouraged to make their voices heard and will have the clues to identify the killer and help us escape.

This is an experience that is not for the faint of heart, as the tension is built through anticipation, combined with the sounds, claustrophobic spaces and scary images, it will set hearts racing!
